Full Job Description

Farmingdale State College seeks to hire a full-time Transfer Academic Advisor that will advise and serve Farmingdale students within the Interinstitutional Partnerships Program. The Interinstitutional Partnerships Program includes newly established agreements with Nassau Community College (NCC) and Suffolk County Community College (SCCC). These agreements were developed to offer upper division courses of some academic programs on-site at these community colleges. The Transfer Academic Advisor will work directly with the Director of Interinstitutional Partnerships and collaborate with administrators, faculty, staff and other offices identified by the community colleges that are integral to both partnerships' success.

This position requires a working presence on set days at both extended site campuses.

 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Advising and registering incoming transfer students in offered academic programs at both sites.
  • Collaborating with major academic advisors and Transfer Services to help re-evaluate incoming transfer classes for students.
  • Guiding students to meet graduation requirements while preparing them to reach their individualized future goals.
  • Providing information, resources, and referrals on broad academic matters and special opportunities to students.
  • Maintaining advising documentation and confidential student records.
  • Meeting with students given early warning, academic warning, and probation notices.
  • Providing support at various recruitment events and trainings such as Open House, Orientation, Information Sessions and NCC/SCCC Advisor Trainings.
  • Acting as a liaison between Farmingdale State College and its staff and off campus sites and other institutions.

The successful candidate will possess good interpersonal, management, and conflict resolution skills, have success working with a team to achieve established goals, and will have a working knowledge of higher education.

Job Requirements:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in an academic discipline or related field.
  • Ability to advise college students individually, assessing needs and offering guidance.
  • Ability to work with individuals and offices that serve students.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Experience with academic advisement in higher education.
  • Excellent record keeping skills (using computer systems).
  • Familiarity with DegreeWorks and Banner.
  • Graduate of Farmingdale State College.

Additional Information:


This is a full-time Temporary UUP position.

  • For the first 10 working days, beginning Monday, December 23, 2024, and ending Tuesday, January 7, 2025, applications will be limited to UUP Farmingdale.
  • CLOSING DATE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS: Tuesday, January 21, 2025
  • SALARY: $55,151 + $3,400 in downstate location pay = $58,551 Total Compensation.
