General Purpose

The Finance and HR Director is responsible for overseeing and managing all financial operations and human resources functions at Family Promise. This role involves the preparation of monthly financial reports, budget management, financial reporting for grants, and ensuring the overall financial health of the organization. Additionally, the Finance and HR Director is responsible for managing HR processes, including recruitment, employee relations, payroll, and benefits. The position works closely with leadership to ensure that financial and human resources processes align with the organization’s goals and mission, ensuring sustainability and compliance.

Job Responsibilities

Financial Management

  • Monthly Financials:
  • Prepare, review, and update monthly financial statements, including income and expense reports, balance sheets, and profit and loss (P&L) statements.
  • Ensure all financial records are accurate and adhere to internal and external accounting standards.
  • Review and resolve any discrepancies in financial data.
  • Grant Financial Reporting:
  • Prepare and submit financial reports for grants, ensuring compliance with grant requirements and timely reporting.
  • Work with program managers to monitor expenditure and ensure alignment with approved grant budgets.
  • Profit and Loss (P&L) & Budget Management:
  • Monitor and review monthly, quarterly, and annual P&L statements and departmental budgets.
  • Ensure expenses remain within approved limits, working with department heads to flag discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
  • Provide year-to-date (YTD) financial reports, projecting trends, and offering insights into financial performance.
  • Income and Expense Oversight:
  • Track and monitor income streams and expenses to ensure they align with budgetary goals.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget, ensuring that revenue and expenses are accurately forecasted.
  • Goal Monitoring and Financial Reports to Development Director:
  • Set financial goals for the organization and individual departments, monitoring progress towards these goals.
  • Collaborate with the Development Director to prepare and present regular financial reports that support fundraising efforts and inform strategic decision-making.

Human Resources Management

  • HR Policies and Procedures:
  • Develop and enforce HR policies and procedures in compliance with legal standards and organizational best practices.
  • Regularly review and update policies to reflect changes in employment laws or organizational needs.
  • Recruitment and Onboarding:
  • Oversee the recruitment process, including job postings, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding of new employees.
  • Ensure that new employees receive comprehensive orientation and are integrated into the organization effectively.
  • Employee Relations:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations matters, including conflict resolution and grievance handling.
  • Foster a positive work environment by promoting open communication, inclusiveness, and employee engagement.
  • Payroll and Benefits Administration:
  • Manage payroll processing to ensure accurate and timely compensation for all employees.
  • Oversee benefits administration, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other employee benefits.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations related to payroll.
  • Performance Management:
  • Develop and manage the employee performance evaluation process.
  • Provide coaching and feedback to employees and work with managers to create development plans.
  • HR Compliance and Reporting:
  • Ensure the organization complies with labor laws and regulations.
  • Prepare HR-related reports for the Executive Director and Board of Directors, tracking employee data, turnover, and other relevant metrics.

Main Job Tasks

  • Prepare and review monthly financial reports, including income, expenses, and P&L statements.
  • Manage financial reporting for grants and ensure compliance with funding requirements.
  • Develop and monitor departmental budgets, tracking income and expenses.
  • Provide monthly and YTD financial reports to the Executive Director and Development Director.
  • Oversee HR processes, including recruitment, payroll, employee relations, and benefits.
  • Ensure HR policies follow legal and organizational standards.
  • Administer payroll and manage employee benefits programs.
  • Support the annual budgeting process, collaborating with department heads to align financial goals.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reports are provided to leadership to inform decision-making.

Education and Experience

  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree or certifications such as CPA or SHRM-CP are a plus.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in fiscal management, accounting, and human resources, with at least 3 years in leadership or director role.
  • Proven experience with grant financial reporting and budget management.
  • Previous experience in nonprofit finance and HR management is preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in payroll processing, employee benefits administration, and performance management.

  • Compliance: Thorough knowledge of relevant financial regulations and HR compliance requirements.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Occasional lifting of materials or supplies (up to twenty-five pounds).
  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods.

Work Environment

  • Office Setting: Primarily office-based, with occasional travel to program sites or community meetings.
  • Schedule: Standard office hours with some flexibility but may require evening or weekend work during budget cycles, reporting periods, or special events.
  • Collaborative Environment: The Finance and HR Director collaborate closely with the Executive Director, Development Director, and department heads to ensure the financial and operational health of the organization.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
