Job Summary

The Program in Computing for the Arts and Sciences (PCAS) in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts at the University of Michigan seeks applicants for a full-time Lecturer III position with anticipated start date of August 25, 2025. This is a non-tenure track position, with a University Year appointment period (i.e., runs September 1 through May 31 each year).

A typical full-time (100% effort) load for a Lecturer III in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) is three (3) courses per semester, or the equivalent in administrative and/or service duties.

The initial appointment period will be one (1) to four (4) years (depending on qualifications), and the appointment is renewable (based on programmatic need, funding, and performance). The appointment is subject to final approval by the College of Literature, Science and Arts.

Responsibilities*

Duties and responsibilities for this Lecturer III position are expected to include teaching four courses per year and significant administrative/service duties.  Teaching will be on-site and in-person.  

In addition to instruction, the position includes significant administrative duties, including:

PCAS is a novel program offering courses that support liberal arts undergraduates in developing computational knowledge skills. The goal of PCAS is that all College of LSA students should be confident in their ability to understand, design, and employ computational methods and digital tools both effectively and critically.
 

Required Qualifications*

Qualified candidates will have a doctorate degree in liberal arts, music, computing, or information prior to the start date of the position with extensive instructional background in interdisciplinary computing, and a range of instructional expertise not only in programming but also in courses related to computing, digital tools, and liberal arts. Regarding the latter, there must be a demonstrated ability to incorporate content that employs computational methods and digital tools both effectively and critically. In addition, there should be documentation of the ability to undertake the administrative duties that this position requires. Demonstrated evidence of excellence in teaching and instructional service will be the principal criteria used to select the successful candidate.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
